The bar has been set

The other day, before the pictures I posted of Niko's drawing on the wall Chris and I were talking about how it had happened again. I mentioned that the purple color had been done in washable crayon. Chris brightened up and said, "Well, that's good!" Then we both started chuckling when he said, "It's pretty sad that Niko has set the bar so low that we're grateful for washable drawing instruments..."

This evening, I baked fish sticks for dinner. I mixed some mashed avocado with dijon mustard and some pickle relish instead of tartar sauce. Super yummy. I arranged a plate for Niko and a plate for me with fish sticks, the avocado concoction, and carrot sticks. I honestly didn't expect him to eat any of it. Per the usual routine, after a blessing on the food, Niko picked up his fork and started poking the food. Then, as if he always ate what was on his plate, he skewered a piece of fish stick and ate it. Then another, then another. He only gave me a few bites (instead of normally only giving me bites). I couldn't fake him out on the carrots, but I have faith we'll get that one, too, someday. Anyway, again, I think it's pretty sad that I'm thrilled that my son ate breaded fish sticks. Hey, it's something, right? I'm going to be a whole lot more sneaky from now on. Now that I'll be using flax seed (see Angi's great blog entry about it here) and wheat germ, this kid is going to eat healthy whether he knows it or not! :)
