Weekend Away

On Friday, February 15th, we all went up to the ranch and spent the night. Here, Niko insisted on keeping Sam company in the port-a-crib. It's a bit smaller and shorter than a pack-and-play, but Niko succeeded in learning how to climb out of both over the weekend. :)
Since Niko has been sleeping in his big boy bed for the last couple of weeks, there was no way he was going to sleep in the pack-and-play. He slept on one of the trundle beds in the loft. It worked out great because the lower bunk caught him when he fell off during the night.
Saturday morning... FREEDOM!!!
Chris and I hadn't been skiing in about three years, so we really enjoyed getting back in the saddle. Chris's pro-level abilities weren't affected by the years of no practice. I spent the first hour giving myself Uncle Charlie's ski lessons all over again. I got to feeling pretty good until the end of the day. It was a little colder, a little more icy, and I took a spill. I have a big blue bruise to prove it. I'm just glad it wasn't a worse fall! Chris got his money's worth all the way until the last run - he was the last one on before they closed the lifts. I quit a little early and took a nap in the car and listened to Harry Potter. :)

Timp was so beautiful on our drive from Salt Lake to Provo

We tried to go to dinner at Tucano's, but didn't have the patience for the hour-long wait.
Instead we went next door to Shoots, a Chinese restaurant.
The tangerine garlic chicken was scrumptious! Chris also made sure I got to try their "pearl drink" with tapioca pearls in it - very different, but really yummy, too!
It was fun to revisit the 5-year plan we made on our first anniversary and see how life has been different. :) We also made a revised 5-year plan. The future is bright!

We enjoyed attending sacrament meeting with the Midway 4th ward.
Sunday evening, we spent about an hour reading scriptures in the lobby by the fireplace.
Cozy, cozy...

Yummy dinner in our room

Monday morning
This was one of the biggest things I was looking forward to this weekend:
Brie-stuffed French Toast.
Chris got a Spanish Omelet. Both were delicious!
We had a fun time at the pool, which included an indoor and outdoor pool connected by a little canal, and an indoor and outdoor hot tub.

We had such fun swimming inside and outside.
You'd have thought we were little kids.
Yes, that's Chris waving.

The boys had a fantastic time with Mami, Pepe Guy, and Aunt Roxanne.
Niko just had to try on Sam's coat. What a silly!

Isn't this a gorgeous view of the sun setting in Provo Canyon?
This was on our way home after picking up the boys.

Niko was so happy to be home with Papa once again. We send out a big "thank you" to Aunt Roxanne, as well as Grandma and Grandpa Clawson, for keeping the boys for us. They all had a great time and we sure loved our getaway together. We're big fans of at least an annual weekend away. It was also nice to be welcomed back by our sweet boys, too. Thank you so much, Roxanne, for making such a fantastic weekend possible!

  2. Hey - those skis look familiar! I'm so glad your day at Solitude was fun, it's totally one of my favorite areas, even though I don't make it there very often. Yay being the last one on the lift! Also yay Harry Potter! Glad for the awesome weekend :)

  6. I'm not kidding, it was the best french toast I've ever had. I want to try and make it, actually. It was just the right amount. Not too little as to be skimpy, but not too much to make me gag. The syrup was pretty impressive, too. Mmmmm.... you're making me want it again. :)
